KIAWAH ISLAND RESORT, S.C. – Freshman Maxwell Moldovan lived up to the hype in his Ohio State debut as he finished tied for fourth at 10-under par. As a team, the Buckeyes finished eight in the 14-team field at 8-under par.
Moldovan carded rounds of 69-69-68 (-10) and made just one bogey over 54 holes. He was one of three players to post all three rounds in the 60s and his 42 pars were tied for the most in the tournament. Not bad for his first official collegiate event.
Fellow freshman Adam Wallin also finished under-par in his first collegiate stroke-play event, carding rounds of 71-67-75 (-3). He ended up in a tie for 23rd.
Graduate Elis Svard rebounded from a 77 in the second round to card a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. He made three birdies and just one bogey on the day. Jackson Chandler and Patrick Schmucking rounded out their tournaments with rounds of 77 and 78, respectively.
Playing as individuals, Felix Kvarnstrom and Grant Engle each finished well on Tuesday. Kvarnstrom matched Svard with three birdies and just one bogey for a 2-under 70. He posted his 15th career Top 20 finish as he ended in a tie for 16th at 4-under par. Engle carded a 1-under 71, his lowest of the week, and finished in a tie for 58th at 6-over par.
The Buckeyes return to action on Match 8-9 at the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island. That event will be played at the Plantation Course at the Sea Island Golf Club.
