SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Ohio State men’s golf team had a 13-shot turn around from round one to round two, propelling the Buckeyes back into contention through two rounds of the Spartan Collegiate.
The Buckeyes were paced by freshman Maxwell Moldovan who posted an even par 72 in the morning and a 2-under 70 in the after. He currently sits in a tie for seventh and is just three shots off the individual lead.
Felix Kvarnstrom matched Moldovan with a second round 70. That followed a morning round 75 and he is tied for 27th at 1-over par.
Patrick Schmucking posted a pair of 73s and is 2-over par while Elis Svard and Adam Wallin are both 3-over par. Wallin opened with a 79 and then made six birdies in his round of 68 in the afternoon. Schmucking also made six birdies in the second round and he played the par-5s at 5-under par which is second-best in the field.
It was a slow start on Monday morning as the Buckeyes started in the middle of the front nine and were 5-over through the first seven-plus holes. But they closed the morning round strong and then posted a 7-under 281 in the afternoon. That has them in a tie for sixth at 1-under par but just five shots off the lead.
Tuesday’s final rounds, which starts with an 8 a.m. shotgun, should be fun as nine teams are within 10 shots of the lead.
