EAST LANSING, Mich. – For the third time in four matches, the Ohio State women's volleyball team (4-0, 4-0 B1G) went the distance and came out on the other side with a five-set victory (25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 25-13, 15-10), this time against Michigan State (0-4, 0-4 B1G) on Monday evening.
The Buckeyes are off to their best start since 2018 and have erased a 2-1 deficit twice this season to clinch the win.
Emily Londot had her second double-double of the year and recorded career highs with 24 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Jenaisya Moore joined the double-digit party thanks to 14 kills and a career-best 14 digs.
Rylee Rader, who made her Buckeye debut, hit .429 with eight kills. Vanja Bukilic earned season highs in kills (9) and digs (4) while Kylie Murr had 16 digs and eight assists. Lauren Witte posted seven kills, five digs and a season-high eight blocks. Mac Podraza handed out 50 assists, her third time this season with at least 50 helpers, and paired it with eight digs, four kills, two service aces and one block. Hannah Gruensfelder chipped in 11 digs and three assists.
SET 1: The teams tied the score nine times to get the match going. A Podraza-Witte rejection gave the Buckeyes a 19-16 edge and sent the Spartans to their bench. Back on the court, Ohio State kept Michigan State at a distance for a 25-22 win.
SET 2: The Spartans doubled up for a 10-5 advantage after scoring seven straight points. The Buckeyes got the deficit down to a pair but it wasn't enough as they fell short 25-20.
SET 3: Michigan State jumped out to a commanding 17-9 lead before Ohio State put together a 5-1 run to pull within four, 18-14. The Spartans refused to relinquish their upper hand and took the set, 25-18.
SET 4: Ohio State was on fire in the fourth, hitting .400 (15-3-30). The Buckeyes quickly took control as they scored the first six points of the frame to force a Michigan State timeout. Another 6-0 run pushed the lead to 17-5 before OSU cruised to a 25-13 triumph.
SET 5: Neither team was willing to give up much ground with seven early ties. Ohio State had some breathing room with an 11-8 edge and kept the ball rolling for a 15-10 victory.
