COLUMBUS, Ohio – After dropping the first two sets, the Ohio State women's volleyball team (3-3) fought back for a five-set victory (20-25, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24, 15-12) against Winthrop (2-3) in the teams' first all-time meeting on Friday night.

Set 1

The Buckeyes trailed 6-3 early, but a block from Alia Schoonover and Mia Tuman and back-to-back attack errors from the Eagles tied the score, 6-6.
A kill from Schoonover started Ohio State on a 4-0 run, which also included back-to-back aces from Schoonover, to give the Buckeyes the lead, 10-7.
After the media timeout, the Eagles went on a 10-2 run to take the lead, 22-17.
A kill from Hannah Jones cut the Winthrop lead to four, 22-18, but the Eagles came away with set one, 25-20.

Set 2

Kills from Tuman and Jones gave Ohio State the early lead in set two, 5-4.
A kill from Na'vea Gauthier, an ace from Emily Avshalomov and a block by Schoonover and Jones gave the Buckeyes a four-point lead, 10-6, and forced the Eagles to burn a timeout.
The Buckeyes took a five-point lead, 15-10, after Jones' sixth kill of the match.
The Eagles cut the Buckeye lead to one, 21-20, but back-to-back kills from Naomy Govou put Ohio State ahead by three, 23-20. Winthrop, however, went on a 5-0 run to take the second set, 25-23.

Set 3

The Buckeyes and Eagles traded points to open the third set and kills from Kalli Jioshvili-Ravva and Aneta Valentová tied the score, 5-5.
A kill from Gauthier, Bailey Nakanelua's first career ace and an attack error from Winthrop left the Buckeyes trailing by just two points, 11-9.
A kill from Schoonover, a solo block from Jones and an ace from Bella Humphrey put Ohio State within one point of the lead, 13-12.
A kill from Jones started the Buckeyes on a 4-1 run to tie things up, 17-17.
Kills from Gauthier, Nakanelua and Schoonover kept the Buckeyes within one point of the Eagles, 21-20.
A kill from Jioshvili-Ravva and two more swings from Jones put Ohio State in the lead, 23-22.
Nakanelua iced the 25-23 set win for the Buckeyes with a perfectly placed kill between the Eagles' front and back lines.

Set 4

Kills from Jioshvili-Ravva and Gauthier tied things early, 5-5, in the fourth set.
A block by Schoonover and Nakanelua and a block by Schoonover and Gauthier kept things tied up, 9-9.
At the media timeout, Jones was up to 12 kills, but the Buckeyes trailed by three, 15-12.
A kill and an ace from Jioshvili-Ravva put Ohio State back within one point of the Eagles, 16-15, and the score was soon tied, 17-17, after a Winthrop service error and Gauthier's seventh kill of the match.

Two more kills from Jioshvili-Ravva tied things up in set five, 4-4.
Another pair of attacks from Jioshvili-Ravva, one from Jones and an ace from Nakanelua put Ohio State in control, 9-6.
A scorcher of a kill from Schoonover put the Buckeyes ahead of the Eagles by two, 12-10.
The vibe in the Covelli Center was electric as Jioshvili-Ravva and Gauthier each notched another kill to secure the 15-12 set-five win for the Buckeyes.

Buckeyes by the Numbers

Jones and Jioshvili-Ravva led the Buckeyes with 16 kills each. It is a season-high for both Buckeyes.
Avshalomov recorded a career-high 22 digs and Mia Stahler tied her season-high with 11 digs.
Schoonover tied her career-high with four total blocks.
Gauthier had a season-high eight kills.
