
Ohio State Falls in Top 20 Meet at Indiana

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 12th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers swam to a 166-134 victory over No. 14 Ohio State in women’s swimming and diving action Friday afternoon at the Councilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center on the IU campus. The Buckeyes are now 1-1 on the young season while Indiana improves to 2-0.
Ohio State was led by Brynna Wolfe, who picked up a pair of victories in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, respectively. The Hoosiers took the lead for good just before the 1-meter diving competition after previously swapping the lead with the Buckeyes five different times. Notes and highlights of the meet included:
- Sally Tafuto led an Ohio State sweep in the 1,000, winning in 10:03.12 with Georgia Mosher and Maya Geringer finishing in second and third, respectfully. The win was Tafuto’s second of the season, after picking up a victory in the 500 last weekend vs. Penn State.
- Wolfe led another Top 3 finish for Ohio State in the 100 backstroke by winning in :55.01 with Amy Fulmer second and Emily Crane third. The Buckeyes enjoyed a 43-31 lead at this point of the meet.
- Indiana came back, though, tying the score at 56-all after the 200 butterfly and eventually building a 92-77 lead after nine events.
- Then Wolfe skimmed more than 3.5 seconds off her 200 backstroke time from a week ago to win the event in 2:00.03 with Kristen Romano third in 2:00.27. The win closed the Buckeyes to within 10 at 99-89 with six events to go.
- The Hoosiers extended their lead to 117-90 and applied the pressure to the Buckeyes by taking the top four places in the 200 breaststroke, including the second win of the meet for Emily Weiss.
- Katie Trace swam to a victory in the 400 individual medley in 4:18.72 with Romano earning Top 3 points for the Buckeyes for the third time this meet with a third-place finish in 4:20.41.
- And the 200 freestyle relay team of Taylor Petrak, Freya Rayner, Crane and Katherine Zenick capped the meet with a win in 1:30.79.
