COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State All-American diver Mackenzie Crawford has been named the Big Ten Conference’s diver of the week for her efforts in the opening weekend of competition for the Buckeyes. The Big Ten made the announcement of its various athletes of the week on Wednesday.
Crawford, a sophomore from Ypsilanti, Mich. And Milan High School, led two 1-2-3 sweeps for Buckeye divers in the team’s win over Penn State and Rutgers over the weekend.
Crawford first claimed the 3-meter diving win with a score of 374.60 with teammates Lexie Barker and Ciera McGing second and third, respectively. The ensuing 16 team points closed a 23-point Ohio State deficit to just 10 points.
About 45 minutes later Crawford again led a sweep by the Buckeye divers by winning the 1-meter event with 320.30 points. Barker was, once again, second with McGing third. The trio’s efforts on 3-meter boosted the Buckeyes back into the lead for good and on the way to a 157-141 victory.
Crawford, under the direction of eighth-year Ohio State diving coach Justin Sochor, won the Big Ten 1-meter championship in 2020 as a freshman and placed third on the 3-meter event as the Buckeyes claimed the Big Ten Conference championship.
Ohio State’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams compete at Indiana Friday at 3 p.m. in a dual meet at the Hoosiers’ Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center.
