Buckeyes Look to Defend Title at B1G Match Play

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State joins 12 other Big Ten teams in the annual Big Ten Match Play Championship held on the Hammock Beach Resort Ocean Course in Palm Coast, Fla. The 13-teams have been seeded into a single-elimination bracket with the top three teams receiving a first round bye.

OHIO STATE AT THE BIG TEN MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
- The Buckeyes have competed in 10 of the 11 previous installments of the tournament, dating back to 2009.
- Last year, Ohio State rolled the field in route to their first Big Ten Match Play Championship title. The team defeated Rutgers (3.5-2.5), Wisconsin (3-3), Illinois (3.5-2.5) and Maryland (4.5-1.5) in the championship round.
- Kevin Stone had himself a weekend, going undefeated in his four matches, finishing two of them as early as the 15th hole, and earning his first Big Ten Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
THE COURSE
- The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort is aptly named as it is situated along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The course features wetlands, lakes, and six holes directly on the ocean. A Jack Nicklaus design, the Ocean Course is considered “Florida’s Ocean Course” and has been recognized in nearly all major golf publications as a stellar challenging course.
BUCKEYE BACKDROP
- The No. 4 seed Buckeyes begin their spring campaign with a first round matchup versus No. 13 Nebraska.
- If Ohio State wins the match, they will take on the winner of the No. 5 Michigan State and No. 12 Wisconsin matchup.
- The tournament is a traditional bracket style competition, with consolation matches to determine placing.
