
Anavia Battle Named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior sprinter Anavia Battle has been named Big Ten Track Athlete of the week, conference officials announced Wednesday, after her national performance in the 200-meter dash (22.86) at the Texas Tech Invite.
How it Happened
Battle secured the 200-meter dash title with a time of 22.86. Her championship time puts her at No. 1 in the nation this season. Last year, Battle secured the No. 1 spot in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.80 to win the Big Ten title.
Battles Career
The sprints specialist has always been a top performer for the Buckeyes, even as a freshman. During her first year, Battle secured eight event titles and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She went on to win four Big Ten event titles including three during outdoor championships. Battle has also appeared in two NCAA championships.
At the 2019 indoor Big Ten Championships, Battle ran a personal best 60-meter dash with a time of 7.28 to claim silver. The sophomore didn’t stop there as she earned the title of Big Ten Champion in the 200-meter dash with the best time in the NCAA and Ohio State history (22.80).
Battle finished fifth overall in the 200-meter with a time of 23.07 at the 2019 NCAA championships, rounding out the effort for the women’s team. Battle helped the Buckeye women to a fourth-place finish as a team with just three competitors.
