COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State women’s tennis team’s lone senior, Danielle Wolf, previews this weekend’s upcoming home matches against Kentucky and No. 24 Arizona State. The Buckeyes will face Kentucky at 5 p.m. on Friday and Arizona State at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Admission is free, with the matches to be played inside the Varsity Tennis Center (880 West Henderson Road).
Here’s Wolf on this upcoming weekend and looking ahead to the rest of the season:
Q: How important are this weekend’s matches coming off of last weekend’s loss?
A: Every match is equally important. We played a tough Vanderbilt team outdoors and we came up short. We had chances, but it didn’t go our way. This weekend is going to be a lot of fun and we are going to treat these matches the same as all of the others.
Q: What have you been doing this week in practice to prepare?
A: We each have been working on specific things that we thought we could improve on from last weekend. We have been drilling hard and have had a very focused week.
Q: How do you think the team is doing so far this year?
A: I think the team has done very well. We have some pretty big goals and are very determined to reach them. We have dealt with a lot of adversitym but have handled it very well and have surprised a lot of teams so far. We plan to continue to do so.
Q: As the only senior, how has it been leading this team?
A: It has been great. Being the oldest, all eyes are on you. It gives me the opportunity to set an example and be that leader that the younger girls can look up to and count on. I think the girls know how much this team means to me and that I am willing to do whatever it takes to help them individually and the team as a whole to do as well as possible. It’s been a privilege.
Q: What are you looking forward to most during your last season?
A: Competing. I love competing and fighting for my school. I am putting everything I have into each practice and match and I am looking forward to helping this team go far this year. Individually, I am looking forward to possibly reaching some new goals. Team-wise, I am looking forward to accomplishing a lot with this team and going deep into the NCAA Tournament and in the Big Ten.
