Rizzo Sets School Record Against Cincinnati

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team won its fourth home game of the season Wednesday at the Woody Hayes Center, topping Cincinnati 15-10
THE SHORT STORY
The Buckeyes got at least one goal from nine different players and never looked back after taking the lead with eight minutes left in the first period. Liza Hernandez and Maura McGregor each registered hat tricks while Sophie Baez and Janie Cowley scored two goals each for Ohio State. Ali Beekhuizen, Chloe Johnson, Nicole Ferrara, Caly O’Brien and Meg Matey each scored one goal to help the Buckeyes defeat the Bearcats.
Jill Rizzo made 15 saves in goal, setting the Ohio State record with 600 career saves. Ohio State outshot Cincinnati 31-29, held the edge in ground balls, 18-16, and was perfect on clears, 18-18.
QUOTABLE
“A win any day is a great day,” head coach Amy Bokker said. “I’m really proud that we competed the whole time and we made some good adjustments in the game that was needed and we got to walk away with the W. It was a great game.”
“I honestly didn’t know I broke the record until I was told after the game. It hasn’t really hit me yet but it’s pretty exciting and a pretty big deal so I should recognize that,”Jill Rizzo said. “Coach told us to be confident in ourselves, the game plan and each other and I think we went out there and did that tonight.”

HOW THE GOALS WERE SCORED
- Cincinnati came out strong with a goal in the back of the net less than two minutes into the first period to take a 1-0 lead. It didn’t last long as Ohio State responded with two quick goals to take the lead for the rest of the game.
- The Buckeyes run was started by sophomore Maura McGregor and was continued by Ali Beekhuizen, Sophie Baez, Caly O’Brien, Chloe Johnson, Liza Hernandez and Janie Cowley in the first half.
- In the second half, the Buckeyes got goals from Nicole Ferrara, Caly O’Brien, Meg Matey and Janie Cowley.
- The Buckeyes defense was able to hold the Bearcats to five goals each period, winning the game 15-10.
