Meet New Buckeye: Lucia Marzal

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team welcomed a new Buckeye, Lucia Marzal, to the roster this spring. The sophomore from Valencia, Spain, transferred to Ohio State from the University of Miami, where she was on the All-ACC Academic Team, earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors Feb. 13, 2019, and finished 26-12 in singles and 13-11 in 2018-19. In the fall, Marzal went 6-2 in singles, with a 4-1 doubles mark.
Here’s what to know about Marzal:
Q: Why did you choose Ohio State?
A: I chose Ohio State because of (coaches) Melissa and Adam. I really feel that besides helping you as an athlete, they are also going to push you to improve as a person.
Q: How was your transition to Ohio State?
A: My transition to Ohio has been pretty easy. My teammates and my coaches have helped me so much from the beginning and I’m so grateful for that. They are my family now.
Q: What’s it like being so far from home?
A: Being far away from home is always difficult. I have a very strong relationship with my family back in Spain, but I’m happy here, and they are happy because I’m happy.
Q: What’s your favorite part about Ohio State so far?
A: My favorite part of Ohio State is my team. They are amazing. I love my coaches and my teammates so much. I’m so happy to share every single day with them. Of course, Ohio State is a great school, but I would also go to the worst place on this planet if it’s going to be next to my team. The people make the place.
Q: What are you most looking forward to this year?
A: This year I’m looking forward to improving as a tennis player and as a person as much as I can, so I will be ready to play for the Bucks when the time comes.
Q: Who is your all-time favorite athlete and why?
A: My favorite athlete might be Robby Naish because I really enjoy watching him surfing.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time off the court?
A: In my free time I like to read books, watch movies, listen to music, play video games and spend time with my people. I also love chocolate.
