No. 12 Buckeyes Drop Heartbreaker to No. 7 Texas

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 12 Ohio State women’s tennis team lost to No. 7 Texas, 4-3, in the backdraw of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Chicago Sunday. Ohio State, the tournament’s No. 8 seed, is now 4-2 on the year, while Texas, the No. 5 seed, is 6-1.
After losing the doubles point, the Buckeyes tied the score at 1 with an Irina Cantos Siemers win on court five. The Longhorns posted the next two victories, on courts six and two, for a 3-1 lead. Kolie Allen and Danielle Wolf both answered with straight set wins for Ohio State, tying the match at 3. The team victory was left up to Buckeye Shiori Fukuda and Longhorn Bianca Turati on court one to decide, ultimately leading to the Texas victory.
In Doubles
The doubles point was captured on courts two and three for the Longhorns.
Both doubles tandems for the Buckeyes lost 6-3 to Texas. Shiori Fukuda and Irina Cantos Siemers fell to Fernanda Labrana and Marta Perez Mur on court two and Danielle Wolf and Luna Dormet lost to Adri Nagy and Tijana Spasojevic on court three for a 1-0 Texas lead heading into singles.
In Singles
Ohio State’s No. 62-ranked Cantos Siemers captured court five in straight sets against Spasojevic, dropping just two games (6-0, 6-1), for a 1-1 match.
On courts two and six, the Longhorns prevailed and took a 3-1 lead. No. 2 Anna Turati defeated Buckeye Isabelle Boulais on court two and Longhorn Perez Mur won on court six when Mary Beth Hurley retired in the first set.
Kolie Allen and Wolf deadlocked the match at 3 with back-to-back wins for the Buckeyes. On court four, Allen toppled her No. 125-ranked opponent, Labrana, 6-3, 6-1. Wolf, ranked No. 99, beat Nagy, 6-3, 6-4, breaking to clinch her match.
The team match came down to court one and a battle between No. 8 Fukuda and No. 44 Bianca Turati. The Longhorns’ Turati won the first set, 6-2, and pulled away in the second, winning three of the final four games for a 6-3 win, for the Longhorns’ fourth team point.

The Buckeyes will be back in action Sunday when they face No. 13 Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. The match will take place at 2 p.m. ET in the Currey Tennis Center with free admission.
