COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University men’s gymnastics team hits the mat for the first time in the 2020 season on Saturday by hosting Oklahoma and Arizona State University. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Covelli Center in its inaugural season. There is no admission charge for the meet.

The meet will feature top competitors with nationally ranked No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 8 Arizona State. The Buckeyes begin the season at No. 6 spot in the Big Ten preseason poll.
Ohio State welcomes back three individual NCAA championships qualifiers from the 2018-19 season: Max Andryushchenko (Jr.), Trevor Cummings (Jr.), and Jesse Tyndall (So.).
Andryushchenko, a native of Mt. Prospect, Ill., secured a qualifying spot on rings in his second season as a Buckeye (2019) to compete in the NCAA individual championships. Andryushchenko’s personal bests include a 14.200 on both rings and parallel bars.
Cummings, a native of Terry Town, La., earned a qualifying spot on pommel horse at the 2019 NCAA championships and placed fourth overall (13.933) to earn All-America honors. Cummings holds a personal best of 14.250 on pommel horse.
Tyndall, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, tallied his personal best on floor (14.600) at the 2019 NCAA championships and advanced to the individual championships. Tyndall was honored as an OSU Scholar-Athlete in 2019 and was named to the Big Ten preseason gymnasts to watch list.
Head Coach Rustam Sharipov
The team is led by head coach Rustam Sharipov, who is in his ninth season for the Buckeyes. Assisting Sharipov are assistants Casmiro Suarez, in his ninth year, and Jamie Henderson, who is in his first season with the program. Henderson joins the Buckeyes after coaching at Star Center gymnastics in his home state of Texas. Henderson was a member of the USA National Team as well as a five-time All-American and three-time NCAA team champion at the University of Oklahoma.
The Buckeyes’ schedule includes two additional home meets this season: hosting Michigan (Feb. 1) and Navy (Feb. 29).
The Big Ten championships are set for April 3-4 in Minneapolis, Minn., followed by the NCAA Championships April 17-18 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
