Buckeyes Travel to Penn State for Big Ten Tilt on Thursday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse is back to the Big Ten season on Thursday, April 4 at Panzer Stadium in University Park, Pa. The Buckeyes face the Nittany Lions at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network, with both teams looking for their first conference win of the season. Mark Dixon and Sheehan Burch have the call.

LAST TIME OUT
• Ohio State earned its second-straight win with an 11-5 victory over Oregon at US Lacrosse headquarters on Saturday, March 30.
• Junior goalie Jill Rizzo recorded the 500th save of her career while holding the Ducks to a career-low two goals in 55 minutes of play.
• Junior midfielder Liza Hernandez posted her sixth hat trick of the season and tallied an assists to bring her point total to 50 this season, her first time passing that mark. Sophomore Sophie Baez also added four points on two goals and two assists.
• Sophomore Riley Ewing held it down in the center circle, earning a game-high seven draw controls.
MAKING MILESTONES
• Parrott, the current active leader in goals on the team, reached the 100 milestone against San Diego State (March 24). With nine more goals, Parrott will land in 10th on Ohio State’s Top-10 career goal list. Parrott also recorded her 100th draw control on March 24, moving up to eighth on the career leader rankings.
• After passing the 500-save mark, Rizzo is now second all-time in career saves, only 67 away from the program record.
• Junior Liza Hernandez passed the career 100-point mark this season, topping out at 111 points thus far. Hernandez leads the Buckeyes with career-high 50 points overall this season.
TEAM LEADERS
• Ohio State currently leads the conference in ground balls, averaging 23.3 per game and is second in caused turnovers, with an average of 11.1. Nationally, the team ranks sixth in ground balls per game and 22nd in caused turnovers per game.
• Nationally, Jill Rizzo is fourth in overall saves at 132 and third in groundballs per game at 3.75. Rizzo also ranks in the Top-10 in saves per game (11.0) and in save percentage (.510). In the confernece, Rizzo leads in saves per game and in groundballs.
• Liza Hernandez leads the conference in assists per game at 1.75 and in gamewinning goals (four), and is third in points per game with 4.17. Hernandez is 24th in the nation in points with her 50.
• Baley Parrott is tied for fifth in the Big Ten in goals per game, posting an average of 2.75.
HISTORY WITH THE NITTANY LIONS
• Penn State leads the series history, 21-6. Ohio State is looking for its first win in the series since 2016, when the Buckeyes defeated the Nittany Lions, 16-13. (April 9, 2016).
• The teams first met on April 13, 1997, resulting in a 14-3 victory for PSU.
• The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions last met on March 31, 2018, when No. 18-ranked Penn State topped Ohio State, 18-10.
SCOUTING PENN STATE
• The Nittany Lions are 4-6 this season, still looking for the first Big Ten win of the season. Last time out, the No. 24 team dropped a 19-11 decision at No. 5 Northwestern.
• Penn State began the season ranked No. 10.
• Sophomore Quinn Nicolai currently leads the team with 24 points off 19 goals and five assists. Senior attacker Madison Carter is second with 21 points (17G, 4A).
• Freshman goalie Taylor Suplee has seen action in all 10 games this season, posting 98 saves and a .462 save percentage.
• Missy Doherty is in her ninth season at the helm of the Nittany Lions, leading Penn State to its seventh-straight NCAA Tournament appearance last year. Doherty is 93-46 as Penn State’s head coach.
