COLUMBUS, Ohio—Senior Will Grimmer has been named to compete as a member of the United States team in the Arnold Palmer Cup that will take place on June 7-9 at the Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas. Grimmer continues to perform in his senior campaign, finishing no lower than seventh place in all four stroke play events he has competed in, winning one, and sports a 6-1-1 record in two match play events. The 11th ranked golfer in the country, according to Golfstat rankings, has compiled a 69.64 adjusted scoring average by shooting 10 rounds of par or better and shooting a career low 11-under, 202, at the Musketeer Classic where he claimed the individual crown. His stellar performances have also earned him a spot on the watchlist for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award, the highest honor a collegiate golfer can attain.
“This is something that I have definitely worked really hard towards and it will be a dream come true to end my college career on this note.”
The Arnold Palmer Cup is the collegiate version of the Ryder Cup that pits 12 of the top ranked United States golfers against 12 of their International counterparts. The first six players of the United States team will be selected using the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking, with the remaining six being five committee picks and one coach’s pick. There will be three rounds of play, each with a different format of mixed four ball, mixed foursomes, and singles to determine the winning team. This tournament is one of the most prestigious events for collegiate golfers and a total of 53 former Arnold Cup players have claimed 195 victories on the PGA or European Tours, many of which are some of the most notable names in professional golf.
The Alotian Club opened in 2004 and was designed by renowned architect Tom Fazio and is famous for the dramatic elevation changes. The first hole is indicative of the rest of the course as the tee sits 70 feet above the fairway, with the approach shot playing back uphill. The par 72 course measures 7,480 yards from the championship tees is the premier course in the state of Arkansas and one of America’s 100 Greatest courses.
Next up on the schedule for Grimmer and the Buckeyes is the Bandon Dunes Invitational in Bandon, Oregon on March 10-12.
