
No. 14 Buckeyes Host Youngstown State Twice Thursday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team (8-2, 0-0 B1G) hosts Youngstown State (3-6) at noon and 5 p.m. Thursday inside the Varsity Tennis Center. Admission is free. Both live scoring (HERE) and live video (HERE) will be available for the matches.
The Buckeyes posted four wins last week, sweeping two matches in Columbus last Wednesday and then notching a road win over Arizona State Saturday and a neutral site victory over TCU Sunday. In all, the Buckeyes have won five matches in a row.
IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is No. 14 in the newest Oracle/ITA Rankings released Tuesday.
The Buckeyes have three ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. Kolie Allen is ranked No. 48, with Isabelle Boulais at No. 64 and Shiori Fukuda at No. 72
In doubles, Fukuda and Boulais are ranked 21st.
In the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 released Wednesday, the Buckeyes are ranked 10th.
SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
The Penguins are 3-6 so far this season with the squad’s losses to Pitt, Duquesne, Ball State, UNLV, Weber State and Toledo and wins over St. Francis, Dayton and UTEP.
The Buckeyes are 4-0 all-time vs. Youngstown State, with all four matches in Columbus. The teams last squared off in 2016, when the Scarlet and Gray posted a 4-0 win over the Penguins in the first round of the NCCA Tournament in Columbus. The teams also met in 2014 (OSU 7-0), 2013 (OSU 7-0) and 2005 (OSU 7-0).
BY THE NUMBERS
Kolie Allen leads the Buckeyes with a 10-0 record in dual matches, while Isabelle Boulais and Luna Dormet are both 8-1.
In doubles, Danielle Wolf and Luna Dormet are first on the team with six wins each. Boulais and Shiori Fukuda have four dual match wins as a pair to lead the squad.
LAST TIME OUT
Last week, the Scarlet and Gray traveled to Tempe, Arizona, to play two matches.
Sunday against TCU the Buckeyes clinched the doubles point after posting wins on courts two and three and won five of six singles matches in straight sets for the 7-0 shutout victory over the Horned Frogs. Kolie Allen and Andrea Ballinger clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory on court two after the teams split the first two matches, with Luna Dormet and Danielle Wolf also winning their match for Ohio State.
In singles, Isabelle Boulais, Shiori Fukuda, Allen, Wolf and Mary Beth Hurley all won in straight sets, with Dormet coming from a set down to win her match.
Saturday against Arizona State, Allen prevailed in a third set on court three to clinch the victory. Wolf, Dormet and Boulais all won in straight sets during singles play for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes dropped the doubles point and went into singles trailing 1-0. Wolf tied the match at 1 with a victory on court five but the Sun Devils pushed ahead with a court one victory. Dormet and Boulais quickly won to give the Buckeyes the lead (3-2). The Sun Devils again tied the match with a win on court six. It came down to court three, as it has the past two meetings between the Sun Devils and the Buckeyes, and Allen won to give Ohio State the 4-3 victory.

Ohio State remains in Columbus and will host Baylor at noon Sunday in the Varsity Tennis Center.
