
No. 11 Buckeyes Head to Arizona for Two Matches

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team (6-2) hits the road for two nonconference matches this weekend, taking on Arizona State at 2 p.m. ET Saturday and TCU at noon ET Sunday.

THE SCHEDULE AHEAD, WITH A SCHEDULE UPDATE
The Buckeyes added two matches vs. Youngstown State for Thursday (Feb. 28). The teams will meet at noon and 5 p.m. in the Varsity Tennis Center.
Sunday (March 3), the Buckeyes will host Baylor at noon in the VTC.
BUCKEYE SNAPSHOT
Ohio State enters the weekend 6-2 this spring with its losses to current Top 10 teams Duke (3) and Texas (9). No. 48-ranked Kolie Allen has yet to drop a dual match, with a team-best 8-0 record, with Isabelle Boulais and Luna Dormet closely behind with 6-1 dual match records.
IN THE RANKINGS
In the ITA Rankings released this week, the Buckeyes are slotted at No. 11. Other ranked B1G teams include No. 10 Northwestern, No. 22 Illinois and No. 27 Michigan.
Ohio State has three ranked singles players and one ranked doubles tandem. Freshmen Kolie Allen and Isabelle Boulais moved into the rankings at No. 48 and No. 64, respectively, and redshirt sophomore Shiori Fukuda is No. 72.
In doubles, the pair of Fukuda and Boulais is No. 21.
A LOOK AT THE SUN DEVILS
Arizona State, a member of the Pac-12, is 5-3 this season. The squad has defeated UC Davis, Drake, Northern Arizona, Cal State Fullerton and San Diego State but has fallen to Oklahoma, California and Wake Forest. The Sun Devils have one ranked doubles pair, with the duo of Lauryn John-Baptiste and Ilze Hattingh checking in at No. 6.
Ohio State is 4-1 all-time vs. Arizona State. The two faced off last year, resulting in a 4-3 win for the Buckeyes at home.
SCOUTING TCU
The Horned Frogs entered the weekend 6-2 and have not yet started Big 12 play this spring. The squad faced Arizona State Friday before taking on the Buckeyes Sunday.
The Buckeyes are 1-2 all-time against TCU. The teams faced off in 2016, a 4-0 sweep for Ohio State in Horned Frog territory during ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Buckeyes have combined for a 78-51 record overall in singles this year, with a 33-10 mark in dual matches. In doubles, the squad is 40-24 overall and 14-7 in dual match play.
- In doubles, Luna Dormet is first with 16 wins, followed by Fukuda with 13. The tandem of Fukuda and Boulais has a team-best seven victories overall, while also ranking first with four dual match victories.
- In singles, the squad has a 4-3 mark on court one, 8-0 on two, 7-0 on three, 5-2 on four, 4-3 on five and 5-2 on six. In doubles, court one is 5-1, court two is 5-3 and court three is 4-3.
- Kolie Allen enters the weekend on an eight-match winning streak and Fukuda is on a five-match streak.
LAST TIME OUT
The squad claimed two shut outs at home this past week on Wednesday.
In the first match Wednesday, Ohio State topped Cleveland State, 7-0. With wins on courts one and two, the Buckeyes clinched the doubles point. The tandem of Kolie Allen and Luna Dormet dropped just one game on court one over Klara Mrcela and Kateryna Avram, followed by a 6-2 victory from Isabelle Boulais and Danielle Wolf.
Ohio State dropped just one set in a sweep of the singles matches. Ohio State won 6-1, 6-1, on courts one and two. Freshman Isabelle Boulais was first off court, beating Klara Mrcela on court two, and sophomore Shiori Fukuda defeated Isabella Spindler on court one. On court three, freshman Kolie Allen posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lara Prosenjak to clinch the Ohio State victory.
Later that evening against the Zips (8-3), Ohio State won the doubles point for a 1-0 lead. The Buckeyes carried the momentum into singles, winning in straight sets in four of six singles matches. Senior Andrea Ballinger, junior Danielle Wolf, sophomore Luna Dormet and freshman Kolie Allen all posted singles and doubles wins for the Buckeyes against Akron.
