COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alec Yoder of the Ohio State University Men’s Gymnastics team has been named to the United States Senior Men’s National Team through the 2019 U.S. Championships, USA Gym officials announced on Monday.
“I’m really proud of Alec and Sean for earning their spots on the national team,” OSU head coach Rustam Sharipov said. “These guys have worked really hard to be here, and they’re going to keep working hard to earn spots on the 2020 Olympic team.”
Yoder joins Sean Melton, who secured his spot with a strong performance in the all-around competition at the Winter Cup on Feb. 15.
Melton took sixth place with an 81.750 score on the evening. His strongest performance came on the rings where he tallied a 14.450, good for fourth place. The 2018 Nissen Emery Award winner tied for fifth place on the pommel horse with a 13.500 score.
Both Yoder and Melton have their spots on U.S. Senior Men’s National Team through the 2019 U.S. Championships in Kansas City, Missouri in August.
