Melton Earns National Team Spot at Winter Cup

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Sean Melton proved that he hasn’t lost a step since graduation as he secured a spot on the United States Senior Men’s National Team with a strong performance at the Winter Cup on Friday.
Melton took sixth place with an 81.750 score on the evening. His strongest performance came on the rings where he tallied a 14.450, good for fourth place. The 2018 Nissen Emery Award winner tied for fifth place on the pommel horse with a 13.500 score.
With his sixth place finish on Friday Melton secured his spot on the U.S. Senior Men’s National Team through the 2019 U.S. Championships in Kansas City, Missouri in August.
The senior event finals get underway at 10:15 p.m. ET on Sunday where Melton looks to repeat as the overall rings champion. He took first place in last year’s Winter Cup with a two day score of 28.700.
