Emma Maltais and Brooke Bink Earn WCHA Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team earned two WCHA weekly honors after its conference sweep against St. Cloud State last weekend. Junior forward Emma Maltais was named WCHA Forward of the Week and freshman forward Brooke Bink was named WCHA Rookie of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday.
In the Buckeyes’ first conference series, Maltais tallied four goals and two assists for a team-high six points. She also notched the game-winning goal in a 5-2 win Friday and finished the weekend with a plus six. In Friday’s contest, Maltais tied an Ohio State program record with four goals in a single game, also good for sixth best in WCHA history. The last Buckeye to notch four goals in a single game was Hokey Langan in 2010. Maltais completed her first career hat trick early in the third period and capped off her scoring with an empty net goal late in the game.
Maltais leads the Buckeyes in goals (5), points (8) and shots (19), while she is currently tied for first in the conference for goals scored. Nationally, Maltais is tied for fourth in goals per game (1.25). This is Maltais’ first conference nod of the season, her third Forward of the Week honor and sixth conference player of the week recognition.
Bink, a freshman from Escanaba, Mich., tallied her first career goal in a 6-2 victory Saturday over the Huskies. She put up five shots over the weekend and had an overall plus three. Bink currently is tied for third most team shots (14) and second among forwards. Overall, she has three points this season from one goal and two assists and is tied for second in the conference in freshman scoring. This marks Bink’s first conference honor and joins current Buckeyes Andrea Braendli, Jincy Dunne, Liz Schepers, Tatum Skaggs and Maltais with a Rookie of the Week honor.
The Buckeyes host Wisconsin at the OSU Ice Rink Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12. Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 6:07 p.m.
