Four Buckeyes Set to Open NBA Season this Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four former members of the Ohio State men’s basketball program are set to open their respective NBA seasons this week. Keita Bates-Diop and Mike Conley get their seasons going Wednesday night while D’Angelo Russell and Evan Turner start Thursday.

Bates-Diop’s Minnesota Timberwolves travel to Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m. ET Wednesday while Conley’s Utah Jazz host Oklahoma City at 9 p.m. Thursday night, Turner and the Atlanta Hawks travel to Detroit at 7 p.m. ET while Russell’s Golden State Warriors host the L.A. Clippers at 10:30 p.m.

Keita Bates-Diop (Minnesota Timberwolves)
Bates-Diop, a second-round pick by the Timberwolves in the 2018 NBA Draft, played in 30 games, including three starts, for Minnesota as a rookie last year. The forward averaged 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 42.3 percent from the field in 16.8 minutes per game a season ago.
Mike Conley (Utah Jazz)
Conley, entering his 13th NBA season after being selected fourth overall by Memphis in the 2007 NBA Draft, was traded to Utah this past summer after spending his first 12 NBA seasons with Memphis. The Indianapolis native has averaged 14.9 points, 5.7 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 788 career games. Conley is coming off a season in which he went for a career-high 21.1 points per contest.
D’Angelo Russell (Golden State Warriors)
The second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, Russell was traded this past July by the Brooklyn Nets to Golden State. Russell averaged a career-best 21.1 points, 7.0 assists and 3.9 boards to go along with his first NBA All-Star selection a season ago. The Louisville, Ky., native has averaged 16.5 points, 5.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 272 career games.
Evan Turner (Atlanta Hawks)
Turner, the second overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, enters his first season in Atlanta after being traded by the Portland Trail Blazers this past offseason. The Chicago native has played in 686 career NBA games, averaging 9.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. With Portland a year ago, his ninth in the NBA, Turner went for 6.8 points, 4.5 boards and 3.9 assists in 73 contests.
