Buckeyes Dominate in Home Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio. — The Ohio State Pistol team held their first home match of the season this past weekend against Akron and Purdue. The Buckeyes added their second win of the season in Open with a score of 6,658 (2,235 Air; 2,248 Sport; 2,175 Standard) while the Women’s team received their first win with a tally of 3,310 (1,639 Air; 1,671 Sport).
The Buckeyes dominated in all three Open events, taking first through 10th in Air Pistol, first through eighth in Standard Pistol and first through 10th in Sport Pistol. The Women’s Air Pistol team of Katelyn Abeln, Grace Praisler and Emily Rust shot a 1,639, creating a new school record. The Women’s Sport Pistol team of Abeln, Praisler and Rust also set a new school record of 1,671.
Not only did the Women’s team register some record-setting scores, but the Open team was able to follow suit. The Open Sport team composed of Abeln, Cade Haiby, Shrenik Jain and Bernard Melus totaled 2,248. The 3-Gun Aggregate team of Abeln, Robert Delagrange, Samuel Gens, Haiby, Jain, Con Marrinan and Melus finished with a 6,658. Abeln set a record of her own by earning a 571 in Open Sport Pistol.
Other notable highlights from the weekend include numerous Buckeyes setting new personal bests. Haiby (561 Sport; 1,638 3-Gun Aggregate), Jain (566 Sport; 1,683 3-Gun Aggregate), Marrinan (1,613 3-Gun Aggregate) and Melus (550 Sport; 1,616 3-Gun Aggregate) all set new highs. Jain secured first in Standard Pistol, second in Sport Pistol, and second in Air Pistol to fire 1,683 overall and earn first in 3-Gun Aggregate. Gens took first in Air Pistol and fifth in Standard Pistol. Finally, Abeln came in first in Sport Pistol, second in Standard Pistol and tied with Melus and Marinnan for third in Air Pistol.
The team is back at it again this weekend, traveling to West Point, N.Y., for their match against Army.
