
Big Ten Championships Begin Wednesday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming and diving program will host the 2018 Women’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships this Wednesday through Saturday at the world-class McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. BTN Plus will have live coverage of all the events starting Wednesday night and running through Saturday evening.
Seven sessions will be contested throughout the week. The first session begins at 6:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday with the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. The schedule for Thursday, Friday and Saturday will feature a prelims session each morning at 11 a.m. ET, and the qualifying athletes will return for the finals session each evening at 6:30 p.m. ET. On the diving boards, the one-meter will be contested on Thursday, the three-meter on Friday and platform diving will be on Saturday. Diving will begin each day at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Top Events
Ohio State has 20 times that currently rank inside the top 10 of the Big Ten from the 2017-18 season. The Buckeyes own four of the top 10 times in the 400 individual medley highlighted by senior Meg Bailey’s conference-leading readout of 4:05.80. Kristen Romano (4:10.36), Kathrin Demler (4:11.17) and Molly Kowal (4:15.08) are the other three swimmers in the top 10 of that event.
The 50 freestyle is another event where the Scarlet and Gray has a handful a possible A finalists. Freshman Freya Rayner (22.25) and Li Li (22.29) own the second and third fastest times swum this season in the 50 freestyle; Macie McNichols season best of 22.59 is the 10th quickest in the Big Ten. Rayner and Li also account for two of the top 10 marks in the 100 freestyle with readouts of 48.43 and 49.09, respectively.
Bailey also owns the quickest 200 fly of the conference swimmers this season with a smooth 1:55.40. Kristen Romano’s season-best and school record of 1:52.86 in the 200 backstroke ranks as the third-fastest clocking of the season.

Ohio State at Big Ten Championships
Ohio State has won five team Big Ten championships; all five conference titles were captured in a five-year period from 1982-86 under coach Jim Montrella. The Buckeyes have also won 88 Big Ten swimming, diving and relay titles.
