
Ohio State Adds Six for 2020 Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball program has added six student-athletes to be part of the 2020 season, head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly announced today. Tegan Cortelletti, Sam Hackenbracht, Taylor Pack, Mariah Rodriguez, Hope Straight and Emily Tinkham signed National Letters of Intent to compete for the Buckeyes.
Tegan Cortelletti | 2B/OF | Hilliard, Ohio | Hilliard Darby High School
Earned first team All-District and All-OCC honors three times…Received first and second team All-Ohio recognition during her sophomore and junior seasons, respectively…Three-time Most Valuable Player…Won the Slugger Award her freshman year…Was a second team All-Metro selection as a junior…Recorded the highest batting average on her team every year (.545, .645, .615)…Plays club ball for the Lasers Green and was part of the 2016 ASA/USA Nationals championship team in 2016.
Coach Schoenly on Cortelletti: “Tegan is a great table-setter for any offense. She is a triple-threat at the plate and causes chaos on the bases. In addition, she knows how to win. She has a competitive spirit that will impact our team.”

Sam Hackenbracht | C/INF | Massillon, Ohio | Massillon Washington High School
Two-time first team All-Ohio honoree…Garnered first team All-Stark County accolades every year…Broke the school record for home runs with 10 as a freshman…Snapped her own home run record as a junior with 14 dingers…Has spent her club ball career with the Ohio Emeralds.
Coach Schoenly on Hackenbracht: “Sam is an elite power hitter. What will be exciting to see with Sam is where she will end up on the field on any given day. Although she’s a natural catcher, she has the athleticism to help us all over the field. Sam is a ballpark kid. She loves the game and it shows in how she plays every single day.”

Taylor Pack | C/INF | Lakewood, Calif. | Lakewood High
Three-time Offensive Player of the Year… Ranked 53rd on FloSoftball’s Hot 100 list for the Class of 2019…Team captain…Earned All-Moore League honors every season…Led the Lancers in RBI as a freshman and sophomore…Plays club ball for the Corona Angels…Helped the squad to a first-place finish in the Champions Cup…Angels were a runner-up at the PGF National Championship in 2016…Finished third at the Colorado IDT Tournament and PGF National Championship last year.
Coach Schoenly on Pack: “Taylor comes to the Buckeyes with a lot of championship play experience. Extremely versatile, we expect her to catch and play infield. Taylor has a nice blend of hitting for power but with a high average. She has a strong arm and a high softball IQ.”

Mariah Rodriguez | INF | Orange, Calif. | Orange Lutheran High School
Ranked 47th on FloSoftball’s Hot 100 list for the Class of 2019…Earned first team All-Trinity, All-Orange County and All-State recognition as a junior…Named Offensive Player of the Year twice…Tabbed as a first and second team All-Trinity honoree as a freshman and sophomore, respectively…Was a second team All-Orange County and third team All-State selection during her sophomore campaign…Member of the 2018 Mexican Junior National Team…Currently plays club ball for the So Cal Athletics.
Coach Schoenly on Rodriguez: “Mariah is a savvy infielder. She will be someone that can compete right away to play in the middle infield. She has speed, power and a superb infield skill set. She will create offense for us on the base paths as well.”

Hope Straight | P/1B | Mount Vernon, Ohio | Mount Vernon High School
Two-time OCC Player of the Year…Three-time Most Valuable Player…Ranked 100th on FloSoftball’s Hot 100 list for the Class of 2019…All-OCC selection every year, including a pair of first team nods…Picked up first team All-District and All-Ohio honorable mention accolades during her sophomore and junior seasons…Broke Mount Vernon’s single-season home run record and tied Ohio’s state record with 22 homers…Plays club ball for the Ohio Stingrays.
Coach Schoenly on Straight: “Hope is an extremely unique player, I’ll call her our “hybrid”. Not only does she hit for power, she is a left-handed pitcher and will play infield when she’s not pitching. Hope is a gritty player who has been a leader on multiple teams throughout her career.”

Emily Tinkham | INF | Shadow Hills, Calif. | La Canada High School
Garnered first team All-Rio Hondo recognition every year…Named Player of the Year as a freshman…Three-time All-Area selection…Tabbed as the Rio Hondo Most Valuable Player during her sophomore season… Ranked 89th on FloSoftball’s Hot 100 list for the Class of 2019…Plays club ball for the Explosion.
Coach Schoenly on Tinkham: “Emily joins the group as a gap-to-gap power hitter. She is a corner player with a tremendous understanding of the game. Her competition against the cream of the crop will benefit her transition into college.”
