
Swartzentruber Wins All-Around Title at Iowa

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes won two events for the first time this season in a Big Ten matchup at Iowa but came up just short, 195.725-195.300, on Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The loss puts Ohio State at 0-3 (0-2 B1G) while the Hawkeyes improve to 2-3 (2-0 B1G). The team score was a new high for the season.
Starting the night off on uneven bars, the Buckeyes tallied a 48.825. Jenna Swartzentruber paced the team and tied her career high on a 9.825 for third place.
The squad switched over to vault and won the event behind a 48.875. Morgan Lowe posted a career-best 9.800 and tied with Olivia Aepli (9.800) for second.
Next up on floor exercise, the Scarlet & Gray earned a 48.675. Both Alexis Mattern and Janelle McClelland finished with a 9.775.
The Buckeyes won another event thanks to a season-high 48.925 on beam. Swartzentruber and Lowe each had their second career marks of the evening and tied for first after both scored a 9.850.
Swartzentruber’s night got even better when she tied for first in the all-around with 39.100. It was the first collegiate all-around title for the rookie. Mattern checked in third behind 39.025.
Ohio State will have its first chance to compete in front of its home crowd when it hosts a tri-meet against Minnesota and Illinois State on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. in St. John Arena.
