ORLANDO, Fla. – After taking three of four games at the UCF’s Wilson/DiMarini Tournament, the Buckeyes return to action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when it faces Stetson in DeLand, Fla. The Buckeyes have a pair of midweek games before the USF Spring Fling, which takes place March 17-18 in Tampa, Fla.
WEEKEND REWIND
• After dropping a hard-fought game to No. 17 Georgia on Friday, Ohio State rebounded to post three consecutive shutouts – a 8 run-rule win against host UCF, a 7-0 blanking of Delaware State and a 4-0 triumph against Mercer.
• Against her former team, Lena Springer turned in yet another sterling outing to defeat UCF, going five innings while six hits and striking out four.
• The next day against Delaware State and Mercer, Buckeye pitchers (Shelby McCombs, Morgan Ray, Shelby Hursh) combined to pitch 14 shutout innings while striking out 17 and allowing just five hits and four walks.
• Sophomore Bri Betschel hit a team-best .556 last weekend with a triple and three RBI. Betschel had a key two-out run scoring single against Delaware State and also drove in a run against Mercer. She had multiple hits in two games and reached base safely in six of her 10 plate appearances.
• Another sophomore, Lilli Piper, had one of the biggest hits of the weekend, a grand slam in the fourth inning against UCF that made the score 8-0. That hit was part of a six-RBI effort, the third highest total in single-game history.
WHAT’S AHEAD
• On Tuesday, the Buckeyes made the one-hour trip to DeLand, Fla. for a game at 5 p.m. against Stetson. The Hatters are 19-5 on the season and are batting .324 as a team with 77 stolen bases.
• The next day, Ohio State tangles with Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla. Bethune-Cookman is 6-18 this year but has won five straight.
• The spring break road trip concludes this weekend with four games at the USF Spring Fling. Ohio State takes on Army and Missouri on Friday and Auburn and North Dakota State on Saturday in Tampa.
