Columbus, Ohio – Fresh off of two titles at the Buckeye Tune Up, Sade Olatoye has been named the Big Ten Female Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Olatoye pulled double duty on Friday at the final indoor home meet of the 2017 campaign, winning both the weight throw and shot put with personal bests.
The sophomore got her afternoon started in the weight throw with the best throw of her career. Olatoye registered the best throw of the event when she launched the weight apparatus 21.73m (71-3.5) to improve upon her already unanimous school record. The mark will serve as an NCAA qualifying mark, as it ranks No. 6 in the nation.
Less than thirty minutes following the conclusion of the weight throw, Olatoye returned to competition in the shot put with another personal record. She tossed the shot 16.32m (53-6.5) for gold on her second attempt of the event; the mark is the fourth longest in school history.
Heading into the Big Ten Championships, which will be held this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) in Geneva, Ohio, Olatoye will have a chance to score big as she ranks No. 1 in the weight throw and No. 2 in the shot put.
