Ohio State Defeats Hoosiers on Final Day of Big Ten Match Play Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. — The Ohio State University men’s golf team picked up another match victory on Saturday (Feb. 11), downing Indiana by a final score of 4.5-1.5. The Buckeyes took two of three matches overall in the Big Ten Match Play Championship, topping Nebraska as well after an opening round defeat to Rutgers.
Freshman Caden Orewiller capped off his dominating weekend by disposing of Indiana’s Brendon Doyle, 5&3. This came after Day One when Orewiller posted back-to-back 6&5 triumphs, playing no more than 15 holes in any match during his 3-0 weekend.
Jeg Coughlin III, Will Grimmer, Caleb Ramirez and Daniel Wetterich each registered two match victories. Ramirez did so in playing just two matches, inserted into the lineup versus Nebraska and Indiana. He put forth a 4&3 win over Nebraska’s Tanner Owen before blowing past Hoosier Christian Fairbanks, 6&4.
All four wins from Grimmer and Wetterich aided Ohio State team victories, each taking their individual bouts against the Huskers and Hoosiers. Grimmer blistered his IU opponent, storming to an 8&7 winner. Wetterich, meanwhile, utilized 10 consecutive pars to down Brock Ochsenreiter (Indiana), 3&2.
Clark Engle went undefeated in his pair of matches in the lineup, garnering one win and one tie.
