PALM COAST, Fla. — The Ohio State University men’s golf team emphatically rebounded from an opening loss at the 2017 Big Ten Match Play Championship, blowing past Nebraska — 6-0 — in the second match of the day. Freshmen Jeg Coughlin III and Caden Orewiler each posted 2-0 individual match records in their first collegiate match play event.
Orewiller not only tallied a pair of victories, but did so in dominating fashion. The Caledonia, Ohio, native started the day by blasting Rutgers’ Matthew Mourin, 6&5, before winning by the same large margin over Jackson Wendling in Ohio State’s clean sweep of the Huskers. He took the first hole in both matches and never trailed or even sat `all-square’ throughout the entire day. Coughlin III opened his day getting past Matthew Walsh, 3&2, and wrapped it up as a 1UP victor over Nebraska’s Justin Jennings.
Clark Engle and Caleb Ramirez were inserted into the afternoon lineup, contributing to the OSU triumph. Engle topped Jace Guthmiller, 5&4, while Ramriez garnered a 4&3 winner over Tanner Owen. Additional individual wins vs. Nebraska came from Will Grimmer (2&1) and Daniel Wetterich (4&3).
