Eight Buckeyes Named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following up on its stellar 2016 season on the field, the Buckeyes have added to their list of accomplishments in the classroom. Eight players achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in 2015-16 to earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete accolades. As a group, the Buckeyes finished with a team GPA of 3.1.
The group is led by seniors Jayla Saibene, who had a 4.0 GPA, and Maddy McIntyre, who earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2015 and is enrolled in Ohio State’s sports management graduate program. Saibene is a physical education major and was one of 16 student-athletes last year who had a perfect GPA for the year.
Also included in the group are three freshmen – Megan Choinacky (pharmaceutical sciences), Morgan Ray (health professions exploration) and Bri Betschel (exercise science education). Rounding out the honorees is Erika Leonard, who graduated last May with her degree in sociology, redshirt sophomore Maddie Marotti (sport industry) and sophomore Bailee Sturgeon (sport industry).
In all, the Buckeyes had 13 OSU Scholar-Athletes, nine on the Academic All-Big Ten list, two Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and eight NFCA Scholar-Athletes during the 2015-16 academic year.
