Melton Finishes 12th at U.S. Olympic Trials

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rising junior Sean Melton and former Buckeye national champion Brandon Wynn completed competition at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials Saturday at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo.
Melton finished 12th overall in the all-around standings, which was comprised of four total scores – the two-day composite score from the P&G championships and the two-day composite at the trials. His overall performance included Top-10 finishes in two events: rings (ninth, 59.550) and floor exercise (10th, 58.825). The Orlando, Fla., native competed in only three events on the final day in St. Louis.
Wynn finished fourth overall on rings (61.175) and ninth overall on parallel bars (59.000). He chose to compete in three events Saturday as well.
Sam Mikulak, Jake Dalton, John Orozco, Alex Naddour and Chris Brooks were named to the U.S. Olympic Team by the U.S. selection committee following the competition. Danell Leyva, Akash Modi and Donnell Whittenburg were named alternates to the team.
USA Gymnastics also hosted the 2016 P&G Championships for the junior divisions on Thursday and Saturday in St. Louis. Incoming freshman Andrew Brower claimed a national title on pommel horse (age 17-18) with a two-day score of 26.750. He also finished fifth in the all-around with 156.400 combined total.
