Ohio State Lays Out 2016 Schedule

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State women’s volleyball program is slated to play 32 regular season matches during the 2016 campaign, including 10 home contests inside historic St. John Arena and a weekend tournament hosted downtown Columbus at Nationwide Arena. The scheduled consists of a 20-match Big Ten docket preceded by four weekends of non-conference action to start the season.

Ohio State opens up its 46th season of women’s volleyball (est. 1971) heading to the Lone Star State for the North Texas Challenge (Aug. 26-27), taking on the host Mean Green (20-13), Texas State (19-12) and Texas A&M (24-7).
The Aggies of Texas A&M represent Ohio State’s first of 15 matches versus teams which qualified for the ’15 NCAA Tournament while 14 contests come against squads finishing the season ranked inside the final AVCA Top-25 or received votes. Nine of those foes not only made postseason play, but also advanced to the Sweet 16. The combined 2015 record of OSU’s non-conference foes this season was 254-127 (.667).
Week No. 2 brings the action to Columbus. The 12th annual Sports Imports D.C. Koehl Classic (Sept. 2-3) is being contested at Nationwide Arena in preparation for the 2016 NCAA Final Four hosting in downtown Columbus. The Buckeyes welcome in BYU (28-4), LIU Brooklyn (14-14) and Wyoming (23-7).
It’s then back to the central time zone for Ohio State and the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational (Sept. 9-10). Green Bay (17-13), IUPUI (21-10) and Missouri State (24-11) await the Buckeyes on the campus of Missouri State University.
Non-conference action wraps up Sept. 16-17 at the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge. Ohio State faces the host Cardinals (15-17), UNC Greensboro (22-11) and Valparaiso (27-8) while in the Hoosier State.
Ohio State dives right into the teeth of the B1G gauntlet with five of the first six conference clashes on the road, starting with a weekend trip to Wisconsin (Sept. 23) and Minnesota (Sept. 24). After a one-match homestand on Sept. 28 vs. Northwestern, back to life on the road go the Buckeyes travelling to Nebraska, Michigan State and Michigan (Oct. 1, 7-8).
St. John Arena re-opens its doors for tilts versus Nebraska and Iowa (Oct. 14-15) before a split week of at Penn State on Oct. 19 and a home match against Michigan State (Oct. 22). The following week presents a home-and-home paired with Maryland, playing in College Park Oct. 26 and back home in C-bus on Oct. 28.
Three of the subsequent four showdowns will be housed at St. John Arena as Wisconsin (Nov. 2), Rutgers (Nov. 11) and Penn State (Nov. 12) invade Ohio surrounding a quick Buckeye jaunt to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Hoosiers (Nov. 5).
The last regular season roadie sends OSU to Northwestern and Illinois (Nov. 18-19). Ohio State then completes its NCAA Tournament resume with home matches vs. Purdue and Indiana (Nov. 25-26).
