Tee-k Kelly Grabs Upper Hand for NCAA Championships Advancement – Ohio State Buckeyes

KOHLER, Wis. — Tee-k Kelly ranks second out of 75 golfers in the NCAA Kohler Regional following 36 holes of play. Final round competition takes place Wednesday, May 18. Kelly has recorded back-to-back rounds of 70 to become the favorite for individual advancement to the NCAA Championships.
The Top-5 teams move on to the NCAA Championships while the highest-finishing player from a non-advancing school is also awarded a ticket to Eugene, Ore., for nationals on the Eugene Country Club (May 27-June 1). If play were to end after 36 holes, Kelly would be that ticketholder at 4-under (140). He currently owns a four-stroke edge over the closest player from a non-advancing squad. However, Daniel Sutton’s Idaho Vandals are skating on thin ice in fifth place and just a pair of shots clear of sixth-place Baylor. Sutton is a lone stroke back of Kelly at 3-under (141).
Kelly racked up five birdies on Day Two, overwhelming his three bogies for a second straight 2-under 70. He was `even’ after 13 holes before dipping two shots under during the final five holes. Kelly’s crushed the Par 4’s, pacing all comers with an aggregate Par-4 tally of 4-under. He’s remained steady by going plus-2 on Par 3’s and minus-2 on Par 5’s. In total, Kelly has accumulated nine birdies to rank fourth in the Regional.
Will Grimmer has notched seven birdies and kept himself in contention up until a quadruple-bogey on the second-to-last hole of Round Two derailed his progress late.
