BRYAN, Texas – Upperclassmen Clark Engle and Tee-k Kelly are both in the running for individual top-10 standing at the 2016 Aggie Invitational, each carding rounds of 72-73 (+1) on Day One. The Buckeye duo is tied for 10th place overall heading into Sunday’s action. Not all players completed their second round, however, as darkness halted Round Two before full completion.
The Scarlet & Gray ranks sixth of 15 in the team standings at 17-over (593); ahead of four top-50 squads in No. 27 Texas A&M (+19), No. 15 Oklahoma (+22), No. 49 Kent State (+22) and No. 36 Texas Tech (+23).
Kelly shot out of a cannon to start his day, dipping five shots under par through the first seven holes following a three-hole flurry of birdie-eagle-birdie. A quadruple bogey later in the round dragged him back to even par though. Engle’s opening round was much less dramatic, off-setting three bogies with three birdies surrounded by a dozen pars. Both Buckeyes followed by posting 1-over 73’s in round number two.
Will Grimmer matched his aforementioned teammates with an opening-round 72 before slipping a bit in his second trip around the course and posting a 79. Through 36 holes the freshman from Cincinnati sits in the upper half (T-38th) of the 80-player field. He started the tournament with a roller coaster ride of birdie or bogey on each of the first six holes. Grimmer’s then steadied the ship until also being clipped by a quadruple bogey early in the second round.
Caleb Ramirez contributed to the team tally twice, putting forth back-to-back 76’s. At 8-over (152), the Californian freshman is just outside the top half tied at 42nd. Josh Wick scored 80-83 (+19) from the No. 5 slot of the OSU lineup.
