WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Ohio State University men’s golf team now has just one round of golf remaining in the 2016 regular season after playing 36 holes Saturday to start the Boilermaker Invitational. Freshman Will Grimmer paced the squad at 1-over (145) and is tied for 18th place overall in the 84-player field following scores of 71-74. The Buckeyes are slotted 10th in the team standings.
Grimmer’s opening round was mostly pars … 16 pars to be exact. The Cincinnati native was able to dip under par for the round, however, overpowering his lone bogey with a pair of birdies. Two more birdies came in the second round while three pars were exchanged for bogies, resulting in a 2-over 74.
Clark Engle steadied the ship after jumping four strokes over par through the first six holes of the day. He shot even par the remaining 12 holes to secure a 76. Engle’s momentum then carried over into Round 2, ultimately dunking back-to-back birdies late in the day to cap off an even-par 72. At 4-over through 36 holes, Engle owns a share of 35th place.
Tee-k Kelly and Josh Wick were two-time contributors to the team tally as well, posting daily totals of 149 and 150, respectively. Kelly (+5) started hot with a 72 before fading a bit at 77 in his second trip around the course. Wick (+6) was the opposite, starting with 77 shots before shaving off four hacks in the second round at 73. Max Rosenthal also represented the Buckeyes, carding scores of 78-79.
