No. 3 Buckeyes Move to 7-0 in B1G with 7-0 Win over Nebraska – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team swept Nebraska, 7-0, Sunday inside the Varsity Tennis Center to remain undefeated in the Big Ten this spring with a 7-0 ledger. The Buckeyes, who have won their last six matches, improve to 21-2 this season, setting the program record for wins in a season.
The Buckeyes’ shutout was their sixth in a row, extending the program record for consecutive whitewashes. The squad has not dropped a team point in nine of the last 10 outings. Ohio State has yet to drop a point in conference play so far this season.
Against Nebraska (17-6, 4-5 B1G), Ohio State won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point for the 16th match in a row. The Buckeyes posted five straight set wins in singles, along with a come from behind super tiebreak win, to shut out the Cornhuskers. Freshman Francesca Di Lorenzo, junior Miho Kowase, junior Gabriella De Santis, junior Sandy Niehaus and sophomore Olivia Sneed all posted singles and doubles wins against Nebraska.
“I feel good about what we did today,” Melissa Schaub, Ohio State head coach, said. “This weekend we got in a couple good matches. Nebraska was a good team. They had some big hitters and I think they’re dangerous. For us to come out and do what we needed to do has made me feel good with where we are in the season.”
In doubles, the No. 3-ranked pair of sophomore Anna Sanford and Kowase downed the Nebraska duo of Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson, 6-1. The Buckeye team now has a record of 13-4 this season. Buckeyes Niehaus and De Santis then defeated Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde on court two, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point for the Buckeyes. After losing the first two games, the duo of Di Lorenzo and Sneed came back to win the next six games to post the last Ohio State doubles victory of the day over Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox-Herr, 6-2. The tandem is now 20-1 this spring.
Sneed quickly defeated Sydney Harlow on court six, 6-1, 6-2, to notch the first singles victory for the Buckeyes and improve to 17-2 this spring. Junior Ferny Angeles Paz dropped only one game against Maddox-Herr to post the second win for Ohio State on court five, 6-1, 6-0. Angeles Paz has now won her last 11 decisions and is 17-1 this spring. Niehuas secured the win for the Buckeyes with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Andersson on court four, notching her eighth victory in a row.
No. 3-ranked Di Lorenzo posted the next Ohio State win on court one against Lehmicke, 6-3, 6-4. She leads the team with 18 dual match victories and 27 total wins this season. After a close first set, De Santis easily downed Shinde in the second to win on court three, 6-4, 6-1.
Kowase came back after dropping the first set to win in a super tiebreak over Mary Hanna on court two, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5). Kowase extended her win streak to 13 matches in a row and is 17-1 in dual matches.
