Di Lorenzo, Schaub and Team USA Win Master’U BNP Paribas Collegiate Team Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s tennis sophomore Francesca Di Lorenzo and head coach Melissa Schaub were part of the Team USA squad that won the Master’U BNP Paribas International Collegiate Team Competition in Marcq-en-Baroeul, France, Sunday. It was the sixth consecutive win in the international collegiate team competition for the United States and the seventh title in the last eight years.
Di Lorenzo, from New Albany, Ohio, was 3-0 for the U.S. squad in singles playing at the No. 1 position. Sunday against Russia she defeated Victoria Kamenskaya, 7-6 (2), 7-5. Kamenskaya is No. 190 in the current WTA rankings, while Di Lorenzo is No. 345.

Team USA defeated Russia in the final, 4-1, after wins over Germany (5-2) in the semifinals and Ireland, (6-1) in the quarterfinals. Each team match consisted of two men’s and two women’s singles matches, one women’s and one men’s doubles match and a mixed doubles match.
Di Lorenzo topped Germany’s Julia Theim, 6-3, 6-3, and was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Amy Bowtell of Ireland. She also paired with Strong Kircheimer of Northwestern for an 8-3 mixed doubles win vs. Curran/O’Sullivan of Ireland.
Schaub served as one of two coaches for Team USA, which included top American collegians. Di Lorenzo was joined by Hayley Carter of North Carolina and Ena Shibahara of UCLA, along with Christopher Eubanks (Georgia Tech), Tom Fawcett (Stanford) and Strong Kirchheimer (Northwestern) on the men’s side.
