
Buckeyes in Action at UT Fall Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State women’s tennis team traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Tennessee Fall Invite. The tournament included four teams facing off in singles and doubles matches in a hidden dual format.
Buckeye senior Miho Kowase was declared the tournament’s singles champion after going 3-0, including two ranked wins.
Combined, the Buckeyes were 11-8 in singles and 10-5 in doubles over the three days. Senior Sandy Niehaus joined Kowase with a 3-0 mark in singles, while classmate Ferny Angeles Paz was 2-1. The tandem of Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis posted three wins to lead the Buckeye squad. Niehaus was undefeated in five doubles matches to rank first on the team.
Day 3 (Oct. 30)
On the final day of the Tennessee Fall Invite, the Buckeyes were 3-3 in singles vs. Arizona State and 2-1 in doubles against the host Volunteers.
In singles, the Buckeyes posted three straight-set victories. Ferny Angeles Paz won 6-2, 6-4 over Kelley Anderson, No. 99-ranked Miho Kowase topped Nicole Fossa Huergo, 6-1, 6-4, and No. 67 Sandy Niehaus was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Gussie O’Sullivan.
The three Buckeye losses all came in three sets. No. 79 Gabriella De Santis fell to No. 87 Kassidy Jump, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0, No. 68 Anna Sanford lost to Sammi Hampton, 6-7 (7), 7-5, 6-1, and No. 80 Olivia Sneed rallied to force a third set but was defeated by Savannah Slaysman, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4).
In doubles, De Santis and Niehaus topped Lindl/Repic, 6-2, and Andrea Ballinger and Angeles Paz were 6-4 winners over Kermet and Bongart.

Day 2 (Oct. 29)
On the second day of action Saturday, the Buckeyes faced Tennessee in singles and took on Wake Forest in doubles.
In the morning, the Buckeyes won five of six singles matches against the host Volunteers, with four straight-set victories.
After dropping the first set on court two vs. Eve Repic, No. 67-ranked senior Sandy Niehaus rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
No. 99-ranked Miho Kowase dropped just three games in a sweep of No. 35-ranked Sadie Hammond.
No. 79 Gabriella De Santis lost just two first-set games before a second set shutout of Kim Kermet. Ferny Angeles Paz was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Ariadna Riley and No. 80 Olivia Sneed topped Ashley Bongart, 6-1, 6-3.
In the afternoon, Ohio State faced Wake Forest in two rounds of doubles and went 4-2.
Niehaus won in both sessions. She paried with sophomore Andrea Ballinger to top Davis and Carter in a tiebreaker and then teamed up with De Santis for a 6-3 win over Davis and Ulyashchenko.
In the second session, Kowase and Sanford beat Asch and Meredith 6-1 and Sneed and Angeles Paz won 6-3 over Zalewski and Fernandez.

Day 1 (Oct. 28)
Ohio State opened the day facing Wake Forest in singles, posting three wins. No. 68-ranked Anna Sanford, who recently advanced to the regional semifinals, topped No. 47 Kimmy Guerin in three sets, coming back after losing the first. No. 99 Miho Kowase dropped just three games in a win over No. 76 Emma Davis and No. 67-ranked Sandy Niehaus rallied after losing the first set to defeat Joanna Zalewski.
Ohio State faced Arizona State in two rounds of doubles, going 4-2. In the opening round, the senior duo of Gabriella De Santis and Niehaus won 6-4 on court one. The Buckeyes swept the matches in the second round. On court one, Kowase and senior classmate Ferny Angeles Paz won 6-2, Sanford and junior Olivia Sneed won 7-6 (2) on court two and on court three Niehaus and sophomore Andrea Ballinger posted a shutout.
