COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 19 Ohio State University women’s volleyball team squares off with Maryland twice in a three-day span, first traveling to College Park, Md., for a Wednesday match live on the Big Ten Network followed by Friday’s home match inside St. John Arena.

HISTORY WITH THE TERRAPINS
The Buckeyes own a 7-2 edge in the all-time series versus Maryland, first facing off back in 1978. The Terrapins took the most recent meeting, however, earning a 3-0 sweep in College Park a season ago.

VAERIA LEÓN – OHIO STATE’S ALL-TIME DIGS QUEEN
With her first dig of the night against Michigan State last Saturday (Oct. 22), Valeria León took sole possession of the Ohio State school record for career digs. Her 1,573rd dig set the new all-time mark and she enters this week with 1,586 to her name. The Buckeye libero also has control of the best digs per set average in school history, putting up 3.46 per set since arriving at Ohio State in 2013.
Taylor Sandbothe CLOSING IN ON A CROWN OF HER OWN
Fellow senior Taylor Sandbothe is on track to break a school record of her own. With 501 total blocks to start the week, she ranks second all-time and is within 17 more stuffs of surpassing Dawn McDougall (517 blocks; 1988-91) for the top spot in Buckeye lore.
ANOTHER RANKED FOE DOWNED BY OSU
The Buckeyes swept by 11th-ranked Michigan State in the most recent match last weekend (Oct. 22), representing Ohio State’s third victory over a Top-25 team in 2016. Then-No. 16 Texas A&M and top-ranked Nebraska also fell victim to Buckeye wins.
SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Valeria León has been named one of 30 candidates nationwide for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The 30 women’s volleyball candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
Ohio State sits at No. 19 in this week’s AVCA Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes are one of eight Big Ten teams ranked in the Top-25 while Purdue is receiving votes. The Big Ten Conference combined for an overall non-conference record of 122-36 (.772).
NATIONAL TELEVISION EXPOSURE
Wednesday’s match at Maryland is one of at least a half dozen Buckeye matches broadcast on national television this season. In addition to the ESPN2 broadcast in Ann Arbor earlier this season, Ohio State is also being featured on Big Ten Network a minimum of five times.
