PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — The Ohio State University men’s golf team tied for seventh place in The Carmel Cup, matching No. 29 Arkansas at 27-over for the 54-hole event. Will Grimmer put forth a top-10 individual effort in his first collegiate tournament while Clark Engle (T-16th) joined him in the top-20 following a 3-under 69 on the final day.
Grimmer’s ascension into the top-10 came on the strength of a second-round 68, the lowest round recorded by any player in the tournament. Engle came close to reaching that mark on Sunday, carding one of just 10 69’s in the event. His final round included six birdies, raising his weekend total to 14 birdies (the second-most in the field). Pars were the name of the game for Grimmer, racking up the 37 ovearll (sixth-most).
Sean Busch started and ended with 75s, posting a 73 in round number two. His 7-over (223) tournament total was good for a share of 31st place on the individual leaderboard. Grant Weaver placed T-40th with scores of 74-75-79 (+12).
Redshirt sophomore Josh Wick was Ohio State’s third-best performer during the final two rounds, just one stroke back from Engle and Grimmer. He rebounded from an opening-round 84 with tallies of 73-72 to end on a strong note. Tee-k Kelly wrapped up the Buckeye lineup, placing 48th at 18-over.
