Season’s First Round Results in Sixth Place Effort on Day One of The Carmel Cup – Ohio State Buckeyes

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Will Grimmer posted a 1-over 73 in his first collegiate round, pacing the Buckeyes in The Carmel Cup opening round. Individually, the freshman sits T-19th overall while Ohio State is sixth heading into Saturday’s second go-around at 12-over (372).
Clark Engle and Grant Weaver finished right behind Grimmer at 2-over and are both tied for 27th on the individual leaderboard. The two upperclassmen reached 74 strokes in similar fashion, each producing four birdies, four bogies and a double bogey. Grimmer was steady with two birdies contrasted by just three bogies.
Seniors Sean Busch and Tee-k Kelly contributed to the team score as well in the rare `Play 6, count 5' scoring event in which the top five scores of each six-man lineup goes towards the total team tally.
Busch owns a share of 33rd place following a 3-over 75 and Kelly comes in at T-36th by carding a 76 (+4). Kelly scorched the Front 9 to the tune of a 2-under 34 before falling victim to a pair of triple bogies on the Back 9.
Josh Wick rounded out the OSU lineup, recording a 12-over 84.
Ohio State excelled on the Par 3s, finishing 1-over as a team (second-best in the field). Weaver was tops amongst all players at 2-under while Kelly flashed some Par 3 precision as well, going 1-under on such holes.
