O’Neill Named Captain for Ohio State Squad – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Grâinne O’Neill has been named captain for the 2015-16 Ohio State women’s tennis team, Buckeye head coach Melissa Schaub announced.
“From the moment Grainne stepped on campus she has been constantly growing and improving,” Schaub said. “She is a great role model on the court and off. Grainne is someone that over the last three years has given this team absolutely everything she has. She gives her best each and every day and that is something the rest of the team can look up to. She is the ultimate team player and ultimate Buckeye.”
O’Neill from Blessington, Ireland, has 49 singles wins as a Buckeye, including 21 in 2014 and 16 in 2015, with an 11-2 mark in singles dual matches last spring. In doubles she has recorded 43 victories, including a career-best 17 victories in 2014, with 15 in 2013 and 11 in 2015.
“I am honored for the opportunity to lead this great group of girls for what I hope will be another successful year,” O’Neill said. “As captain, I will do all in my power to be a good leader and motivator in the best interest of our team and of our great university. Go Bucks!”
This week, select Buckeyes will be in action at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The full squad will return to play in the ITA Midwest Regional beginning Oct. 22 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
