TOLEDO, Ohio –The Ohio State men’s golf team ended on a high note at the Inverness Intercollegiate, carding the second-lowest round of the event with a 289 in the final go-around. The 5-over effort lifted the Buckeyes into sixth place overall in the 15-team field, three slots higher than they had entered Tuesday’s final 18 holes.
Tee-k Kelly and Will Grimmer led the late charge, each shooting even par in round number three. Not coincidentally, the Buckeye pair posted the best scores overall as well. Kelly tied for sixth place among 75 players by posting a 218 (+5). He started and ended with 71’s and posted a 76 in the middle round. Grimmer followed by four strokes at 9-over (222), good for a share of 14th place individually. After a 10th place finish at The Carmel Cup (Sept. 4-6), Grimmer has opened his collegiate career with back-to-back top-15 showings. Grimmer mirrored Kelly in strong first and third round scores (72-71) surrounding a second-round 79.
Clark Engle joined Kelly in contributing to the team for all three rounds. Engle showed little variance in the tournament, recording subsequent scores of 75-76-74 to grab a piece of 26th place at 12-over (225).
Sean Busch and Michael Bernard rounded out the OSU lineup, tying for 54th and 60th, respectively. Busch got better as the event went on, going 82-77-73 (232; +19) and playing a huge role in Ohio State’s final round push up the team standings. Bernard, meanwhile, experienced three similar rounds with scores of 79-77-78 (234; +21).
