Di Lorenzo Moves on to US Open Juniors Singles Semifinals – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Francesca Di Lorenzo, a freshman on the Ohio State women’s tennis team, has advanced to the semifinals of the US Open Junior Singles Championship. Her great run in the doubles tournament ended in the semifinal round.
In singles Friday, Di Lorenzo rallied for the win. She dropped the first set, 7-5, before winning the second 7-5, followed by a 6-2 win in the decisive third set. It was her second three-set win of the tournament. Di Lorenzo will take on a Top 3 seed in the semifinals, slated for court 11 Saturday, second on after a noon match.
In doubles, she and partner Luisa Stefani, a freshman at Pepperdine, lost in a supertiebreaker in the semifinals Friday. After dropping the first set 6-4, Di Lorenzo and Stefani won a tiebreaker to even the match. They then fell in the supertiebreaker, 10-5.
Di Lorenzo, a New Albany, Ohio, native who is ranked No. 26 in the most recent ITF junior rankings, also played in this year’s Wimbledon and French Open junior championships. She won the ITF Women’s Pro Tennis Open of Austin in Summer 2015, as well as doubles titles at tournaments in Belgium and Brazil. Di Lorenzo first competed in the U.S. Open junior tournament in 2014, winning her first round match.
