Ohio State Bolsters 2015 Roster with Addition of Appold and Ruetter – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Audra Appold and Emily Ruetter will suit up for The Ohio State University women’s volleyball program during the upcoming 2015 season, each signing on to become the newest Buckeyes. Appold will be a freshman while Ruetter transfers to Ohio State after playing three seasons at Texas Tech University.
Appold is a two-time All-Ohio performer out of Perrysburg, wrangling First Team honors as a senior. The six-foot-one outside hitter pushed Perrysburg High School to a 19-4 record in 2014, picking up AAU All-America and AVCA Under Armour All-America honorable mention along the way. The accolades continued to roll in for Appold, also earning Northern Lakes League and District Player of the Year laurels. With 266 digs (3.97/set), 243 aces (3.63/set) and 231 kills (3.45/set), she was named the 2014 Old Newsboys Volleyball Player of the Year scholarship recipient.
Ruetter (5’11”), a native of Burlington, Ontario, played in 77 matches spanning three years for Texas Tech. As a Red Raider she dished out a total of 2,739 assists (9.68/set) as the team’s primary setter in 2012-13 before splitting setting duties in a 6-2 offense ran last season. During her time in Lubbock, Texas, Ruetter accumulated 645 digs, 102 blocks, 84 kills and 38 service aces. She ranked third in the Big 12 Conference with 10.35 assists per set in 2013. The two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree racked up 71 assists in a five-set victory over Houston Baptist on Sept. 14, 2012; marking the most assists by any Big 12 player during the entire ’12 campaign.
The pair joins an Ohio State program which has reached the NCAA Sweet 16 three times in the past five years and added incoming freshman Taylor Hughes and Megan Wickey as well.
