Buckeyes Open Competition at the NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team opened competition at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday afternoon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The Buckeyes featured entries in five semifinal events on Thursday but were unable to advance any athletes or relays to championship finals. Junior SoSo Walker turned in the top performance of the day, falling one spot shy of the 400-meter finals with a ninth-place time of 52.33, earning Second Team All-America honors in the process. Walker was third in her section and finished a tenth of a second shy of final qualifying position.
Redshirt junior Aisha Cavin ran a nice race in her 200-meter semifinal, finishing fifth in the fastest heat of the afternoon and 11th overall in a time of 22.99, earning the fourth Second Team All-America award of her career.
Katie Borchers concluded an outstanding career for the Buckeyes with an Honorable Mention All-America award in the 800-meter dash — the third of her career — and a 21st-place time of 2:09.17. Borchers, a senior from Russia, Ohio, set nine school records throughout the 2015 season (five individual and four relay) and won both the indoor and outdoor Big Ten titles in the 800.
Sophomore Aaliyah Barnes earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades in the 400-meter dash with a 22nd-place finish in 53.75 seconds.
In relay action, the 4×100-meter team was 15th overall in 44.79 seconds as junior Aliyah Everson, senior Chesna Sykes, Cavin and Barnes collected Second Team All-American honors for the Buckeyes. The 4×400-meter squad — Walker, Barnes, freshman Beatrice Hannan and Cavin — ran into problems on the final handoff, finishing 22nd overall in 3:41.43 for Honorable Mention All-America.
Senior Carly Pendleton will be the lone competitor for Ohio State on Saturday as she contends in the discus finals at 4:35 p.m. ET. ESPN3.com will have live coverage in the field.
