Buckeyes Win Three Gold Medals at B1G Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Ohio State women’s track and field team collected three gold medals at the 2015 Big Ten Outdoor Championships Sunday at Ralph Young Field on its way to a fourth-place finish.
The Buckeyes closed the weekend with 87 points as host and 13th-ranked Michigan State won the meet with a team score of 128. Nebraska was the runner-up with 97 points, followed by third-place Minnesota.
Redshirt junior Aisha Cavin turned in the top performance of the weekend for the Buckeyes, sprinting to a personal-best time of 22.86 seconds and first place in the 200-meter dash. The time ranks second in the OSU outdoor record book and eighth in Division I this season.
Cavin also collected a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 11.51 seconds and anchored the 4×400-meter relay team to the Big Ten title. Junior SoSo Walker, sophomore Aaliyah Barnes and freshman Beatrice Hannan joined Cavin on the winning 4×4 team, as the foursome posted a season-best time of 3:33.20, the No. 2 performance in the OSU outdoor record book and the 17th-fastest time in the nation this season.
Distance star Katie Borchers, a senior from Russia, Ohio, captured her second-consecutive Big Ten title for the Buckeyes in the 800-meter run, breaking her own school outdoor record with a winning time of 2:04.74, a Top-25 mark in Division I this season.
Walker and junior Alexis Franklin would add pair of silver medals to the Buckeyes’ haul. Walker was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 52.26, the No. 2 time in school outdoor history and a Top-20 performance nationally. Franklin was second in the 400-meter hurdles for the second-consecutive year in a season-best time of 56.78, 10th in DI this season. She also collected a bronze medal in the 100-meter hurdles (13.42 seconds).
Barnes joined her 4×400-meter teammate Cavin as a medalist in the 200-meter dash, taking home the bronze medal in 23.34 seconds, equaling her season-best time from preliminary heats. She also placed seventh in the 400 in a time of 54.11.

Other highlights:
• Senior Chesna Sykes was sixth for the Buckeyes in both the 100-meter (11.57) and 200-meter (23.79) dashes. She was joined as a scorer in the 200 by junior Aliyah Everson (seventh, 23.61), as all four Buckeyes captured points in the event.
• Along with Franklin, senior Alexandria Johnson and junior Jasmine Glover scored in the 100-meter hurdles for the Buckeyes. Johnson was fifth in a season-best time of 13.54, while Glover took seventh in a time of 13.75.
• Glover also placed seventh in the high jump, matching a season-best height of 1.73 meters (5-8.00).
• Sophomore Rachel Weber was eighth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:10.83.
• Junior Alyssa Gary cleared a personal-best 15.38 meters (50-5.50) to finish ninth in the shot put.
• A mark of 12.41 meters (40-8.75) helped senior Bianca Walton to a ninth-place finish in the triple jump.
