COLUMBUS, Ohio— Morgan Ray, a senior at Frenchtown High School in Montana and future Buckeye softball player, has been named to the 2015 MaxPreps Preseason All-America team, the organization announced today.
Ray, who signed a National Letter of Intent with Ohio State last November, is a two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year. She posted a 23-1 record along with a 0.72 ERA leading the Broncs (28-1) to a second-straight Class A state title last spring. Ray struck out 280 batters and walked just 28 in 145 innings pitched. She fired 10 no-hitters, including one perfect game, and held opponents to a .114 batting average. Ray also batted .598 with 12 home runs, 54 RBIs and a 1.253 slugging percentage.
As a sophomore in 2013, Ray posted a 14-1 record in the circle with two saves, a 0.78 ERA and 203 strikeouts in 107.2 innings pitched this season. She allowed 44 hits and 26 walks and threw one perfect game. Her dominance extended beyond just pitching. At the plate, the all-state selection batted .506 with six home runs, nine doubles, 38 runs scored, 39 RBI and a .800 slugging percentage.
