Tee-k Kelly used a 5-under in the second round to springboard himself into a tie for seventh place at the Lone Star Invitational. Ohio State finished seventh in the team standings as well, completing the 54-hole event at 2-under (862).
The Buckeyes excelled on the Par 5s, dipping a tournament-best 26 strokes under par as a team. Kelly contributed 10 shots under par, the best individual Par-5 scoring in the field. The junior from Wheaton, Ill., buried 17 birdies total, good for second most among all players.
Fourth-year players Boo Timko and Grant Weaver each grabbed a piece of 31st place at 1-over. Timko got there by rebounding after an opening-round 77 with tallies of 69-71 in the subsequent rounds. Weaver was the opposite starting off hot at 71-70 before slowing up a bit in the third round (76).
Addison Coll bested over 30 of his peers, placing T-51st. He rattled of scores of 74-71-76 to finish 5-over. Clark Engle rode a roller coaster as the only player with multiple eagles in the event, but placing T-59th overall (78-72-73).
