COLUMBUS, Ohio– Michigan scored five times in both the third and fourth innings while limiting Ohio State to four hits as the Wolverines took the second game of the weekend series, 13-1, on Saturday at Buckeye Field. The three-game set concludes tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Michigan’s three first-inning runs off starter Alex DiDomenico came via a three-run home run from Sierra Romero, who sent a 1-2 pitch over the fence. The score remained 3-0 into the third inning when the Wolverines struck for five runs, keyed by a grand slam from Amanda Vargas. Michigan hit its third home run of the game, this one by Sierra Lawrence, in the fourth inning, a three-run shot.
In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor White led off the inning with a double to left field and a single by Kirstie Fehrenbach followed that moved White to third. A walk by Caitlin Conrad loaded the bases and White eventually came around to score on a passed ball. The Buckeyes’ four hits on the day all came from different players – Maddy McIntyre, Jayla Saibene, White and Fehrenbach.
Three pitchers saw action for Ohio State, DiDomenico (two strikeouts), Shelby Hursh, and Lena Springer, who held Michigan scoreless in the third and struck out Kelly Christner.
